Day 12 – James Lim

1. What do you do for a living? (occupation/field of study)

I work in Supply Chain. I got into the field because I like warehouses and factories.  They let me out of the office once in a while to visit and play with the boxes.

2. How do you like to spend your free time?

I usually spend my time reading, exercising or gossiping with friends.

3. Share one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know!

I tell people I’m allergic to Pineapple when someone’s about to order Hawaiian Pizza.

4. Do you have a favorite book in the Bible? If you do, which one is it and why?

I like Judges.  I love the action, the drama, the cycle of sin and the different personalities of the Judges.  I always thought this warring era of Israel was really cool.

5. Is there a verse/passage in the Bible that has significantly impacted your life? If so, which is it and why?

“He drove into my kidneys the arrows of his quiver;” - Lamentations 3:13

This is definitely the type of dark, grim, gallows humor that makes me feel guilty for laughing.  In 2020, I did the bible reading plan with two brothers.   When we were discussing this particular reading, I called dibs on this verse.  Being the righteous brothers that they were, they laughed wholeheartedly.  Even in times of suffering, moments like these reminded me that I didn't need a "grand rescue" or "miraculous healing" to know that God was with me.

In moments of silly laughter with friends.  In the crisp frosty air of morning prayer.  Even the breeze tickling the leaves outside the window of St. John's auditorium.  He's always there.

6. Is there a prayer request that has been on your heart recently? If so, please share with us.

I want clearer directions from God regarding what He wants me to do.  I always wonder how to best serve the people around me and sometimes my impatience gets the best of me.  If God wants me to wait and bide my time, I want to be able to discern his Will.

7. Tell us about how you met Christ? (feel free to share a brief testimony)

When I was about six or seven years old, my mom dropped me off at a church to watch a puppet show.  Growing up in an atheist family it was a strange and horrifying experience.  The puppet show was about this little girl whose father did not like her going to church.  Every time she went to church and came back home, she would get beat.  Since she always walked to church, he would beat her feet.

On Christmas, her father warned her not to go to church.  But the little girl wanted to meet Jesus on Christmas no matter what and disobeyed.  When she came back, her father was waiting for her and began to beat her.  He beat her so much that the screen faded to black.  When she arrived in heaven, the girl was excited to meet Jesus but realized her socks were soaked with blood.  She tried to hide them from Jesus’ white robes, afraid of dirtying them.  But Jesus took the bloodied socks from her, held them close to His chest and said “These are my treasures now.  Thank You.”

You know, I can’t say the puppet show was what made me turn to God.  But whenever times got tough and the world decided to kick me around, I always remembered those stupid voices and the poorly made props.  I hope one day, I have something of my own to offer Jesus, that He can call his “treasure”.
