Day 28 – Danbi Son
1. What do you do for a living? (occupation/field of study)
I currently work as a barista at a cafe!
2. How do you like to spend your free time?
I love going on walks, exploring new cafes, and trying new food. I also really enjoy reading and love browsing at bookstores!
3. Share one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know!
My name was originally supposed to be Jenny (both in Korean and English)! My parents had it set but my grandma intervened at the last minute. She named me after a phrase in her favorite hymn, which means “showers of blessing”.
4. Do you have a favorite book in the Bible? If you do, which one is it and why?
I’ve been really enjoying the Book of Psalm. I think the range of emotions the book displays is so relatable. The freedom the psalmists have when it comes to expressing both anguish and joy, lament and praise, really encourages my heart to be free and genuine before God. The many chapters David cries out to the Lord and yet ends with the greatness and worthiness of God, has challenged me to follow that posture and give praise regardless of my emotions and circumstances. It’s also very beautifully written!
5. Is there a verse/passage in the Bible that has significantly impacted your life? If so, which is it and why?
I think the passage that’s impacted me the most this season is Psalm 91.
To quote some key verses, Psalm 91:1-2;4
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’...He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”
I’ve come back to this chapter many times when I felt anxiety and fear creep into me. I would proclaim these words over myself and over my life and it would bring me peace and assurance. These words continue to remind me of God’s greatness and that He is my peace, my protector, and my deliverer.
6. Is there a prayer request that has been on your heart recently? If so, please share with us.
To have deep joy and contentment in the Lord, and to be open and to have courage in whichever way He leads.
7. Tell us about how you met Christ? (feel free to share a brief testimony)
I’ve grown up following my grandma to church and being immersed in church life. In sixth grade, I moved to a new church and there was a retreat and mission trip. I was reluctant to go but of course, my mom signed me up. I thought I knew God and of his love but it was through this retreat and mission trip where my eyes and heart were truly opened to accepting Christ. I remember being so filled with the Holy Spirit and it was the first time I had felt anything like it. From then on, there have been so many encounters and moments with God–moments of God’s faithfulness that I cannot fathom, and still many moments of my own doubtfulness. Through it all, I am so grateful that the Lord’s goodness does not depend on my level of faithfulness or my failures.
