Day 32 – Abraham Chung
1. What do you do for a living? (occupation/field of study)
I currently work as a process engineer in the oil & gas industry.
2. How do you like to spend your free time?
I like going to the gym, and doing anything outdoorsy or sports related, but that also doesn’t stop me from enjoying my time at home doing nothing.
3. Share one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know!
I have three older sisters and have a big gap with the oldest, so I became an uncle when I was 13!
4. Do you have a favorite book in the Bible? If you do, which one is it and why?
I like Romans and Hosea - both books illustrate who God is in our lives and the fulfillment of His promises to us. Romans adamantly remind us of a righteousness that we could never have imagined or attained, and the new identities with which we’re able to live.
5. Is there a verse/passage in the Bible that has significantly impacted your life? If so, which is it and why?
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”John 15:5 ESV.
I find myself saying something like this verse a lot in prayer - that I could remain the branch to His vine, just remaining with Him, hearing from Him, and receiving strength!
6. Is there a prayer request that has been on your heart recently? If so, please share with us.
I would appreciate prayer over my humility before God. I want to be able to follow whatever He’s intended for me and submit to His authority, especially in situations where I’m challenged to move beyond my comfort zone.
7. Tell us about how you met Christ? (feel free to share a brief testimony)
I grew up in the Church, but only started to understand the ways Christ was working in me and in those around me in my senior year of high school. In my church youth group, I was appointed to be a leader, but I put a lot of doubt in myself because I felt that I lacked the knowledge to lead Bible studies and small groups. God moved through the discussions we had and the time spent together anyway, and I was learning, little by little, to break out of that close-mindedness and dependence on myself, to trust God with everything.
In college, I was pretty involved with the Christian fellowship on campus, and those experiences, along with the church I was attending at the time, helped me think about and take steps toward the life that followers of Christ should be leading every day, as opposed to just on Sundays.
God has been faithful in leading me through these formative years in my faith, and I pray that I could continue to recognize how He is moving every day, and that my thoughts and my actions would be more and more like Him.
